Uttar Pradesh to train 41,424 Home Guards with new weapons

The Uttar Pradesh government is making extensive preparations to train 41,424 newly recruited Home Guard candidates. To facilitate weapon handling and firing exercises, the department will purchase over 1 million 5.56 mm SLR cartridges through the Special Task Force (STF), an expenditure estimated at approximately 3.55 crore rupees.

In addition to the ammunition, the department plans to acquire 155 SLR rifles at a cost of roughly 1.44 crore rupees. The training program, which is expected to last 90 days, will cover discipline, law and order assistance, disaster management, and weapon operation.

The recruitment process is currently in its final stages, with physical efficiency tests (PET) nearing completion. Results are expected by the end of September, followed by medical examinations and police verification in October. Training is scheduled to commence in November, with a goal to complete it by January and deploy the personnel to the field by February. Once this current recruitment cycle is finalized, the department intends to issue advertisements for an additional 7,600 vacant positions.
