Uttar Pradesh village murder over alleged affair sparks unrest
In the Mandawar police‑station area of Bijnor district, Uttar Pradesh, 23‑year‑old Bittoo Kashyap was stabbed to death on the morning of 28 June 2026. The attacker, Surendra Singh Chauhan, a neighbour who claimed that Bittoo was having an illicit relationship with his daughter‑in‑law, used a knife to strike Bittoo in the chest. Chauhan’s sons, Anit and Neetu, helped restrain the victim before the fatal blows. Bittoo was taken to a nearby hospital but was declared dead.
Police arrested Surendra Singh Chauhan and placed him in custody while continuing to hunt his two sons. The incident ignited tension in Koharpur village, leading to protests by the victim’s family, the posting of “House for sale” on walls, and a temporary deployment of additional police forces. Authorities later demolished the wall of Chauhan’s house with a bulldozer. Charges under Indian Penal Code Section 103 (murder) have been filed against Chauhan, and investigations into the alleged affair and family dispute are ongoing.
