Uttarakhand announces free bus travel for women over 60

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced several initiatives aimed at women's empowerment and welfare. On the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, the government will provide free travel on Uttarakhand Roadways buses for all women aged 60 and above. This measure is expected to benefit over 650,000 women, particularly those in rural and mountainous regions.

To enhance urban safety and comfort, the Chief Minister also announced the dedication of 10 pink e-buses to women in Dehradun under the Prime Minister's e-bus service, with plans for state-wide expansion.

In support of entrepreneurship, the government is increasing the limit for subsidized bank loans under the Women's Self-Employment Scheme from 200,000 to 250,000 rupees. This follows the success of the Lakhpati Didi scheme, which has helped over 300,000 women from self-help groups achieve an annual income exceeding 100,000 rupees. Additionally, the state continues to implement a 30 percent reservation for women in government jobs.
