Uttarakhand BJP defends CBI probe in Ankita Bhandari murder case
Political tension has escalated in Uttarakhand following the Uttarakhand High Court's decision to reject bail pleas for the accused in the Ankita Bhandari murder case. Members of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have attributed the court's decision to a thorough investigation and a strong prosecution.
BJP representatives stated that the government has prioritized justice for the victim, noting that a Special Investigation Team was formed within 24 hours of the incident and a 500-page chargesheet was prepared. They further highlighted that the Chief Minister ordered a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe to respect the family's wishes and provided financial assistance and employment to the victim's relatives.
The BJP has criticized the Indian National Congress for attempting to politicize the case. Specifically, party spokespeople argued that Congress's demands to make the CBI investigation report public before the process is complete are an attempt to mislead the public and interfere with the legal process. The BJP maintains that the CBI is an independent agency and that the opposition should present any evidence they possess directly to the investigators rather than through political platforms.
