Uttarakhand expands nursing education capacity and international job prospects

The Uttarakhand government, under Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, has expanded nursing education capacity through the establishment of three new government nursing colleges since July 2021. This expansion has added 321 seats to government institutions, bringing the total number of government nursing seats to 879. When combined with 10,616 seats in private institutions, the state's total nursing capacity has reached 11,495 seats.

To enhance global employability, the state is providing vocational training alongside foreign language instruction in Japanese, German, and Spanish. These initiatives have already resulted in international placements, with 60 candidates securing employment in Japan in 2023 and 13 candidates securing roles in Germany in 2025.

Private nursing institutions in the state are attracting students from across India, including Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Bihar, and the northeastern states. To maintain educational quality, authorities are also focusing on faculty appointments and the creation of new teaching positions.
