Uttarakhand floods cause 11 deaths and close 172 roads

Severe rainfall and flooding in Uttarakhand have resulted in at least 11 deaths across various districts. The heavy precipitation has triggered landslides and caused rivers to rise to dangerous levels, significantly disrupting life and infrastructure.

In Pauri, a mother and her young daughter were swept away by a river, while in Almora, debris from a house collapse killed three people, including two women and a child. Additionally, two workers were killed by debris in the Tuni area of Dhar. The flooding has also caused a car to be swept away in a seasonal river in Dehradun, leading to two fatalities.

Infrastructure has been heavily impacted, with 172 roads, including two national highways, closed due to landslides and waterlogging. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued orange and yellow alerts for several districts, including Dehradun, Nainital, and Bageshwar, warning of heavy to very heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning through September 7. The Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority (USDMA) previously issued a red alert for certain regions, predicting intense rainfall and lightning.
