Uttarakhand Heavy Rain Forces Dehradun School Closures, Triggers State Alert

Intense monsoon rains have battered Uttarakhand, causing rivers such as the Alaknanda and Bhagirathi to rise above danger levels and flood several districts. The state disaster management office issued an orange alert for Dehradun, Chamoli and Bageshwar, while a yellow alert covers the remaining districts.

Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami placed the entire state on a high‑alert footing, directing the SDRF, NDRF and district administrations to stay on standby for rescue operations. All schools and Anganwadi centres in Dehradun were ordered to close for the day, and officials urged residents, especially those living near riverbanks, to relocate to safer areas and avoid non‑essential travel. Road blockages from landslides and debris have also been reported on several national highways.
