Uttarakhand installs early warning system at Vasundhara Tal
Uttarakhand has completed the first phase of installing an early warning system at Vasundhara Tal in the Chamoli district. This initiative aims to monitor potential Glacial Lake Outburst Flood (GLOF) risks in the high Himalayan region. A technical team successfully deployed advanced sensors around the glacial lake despite challenging weather and terrain.
In a related effort to strengthen regional disaster preparedness, officials from Himachal Pradesh visited Dehradun to review Uttarakhand’s monitoring systems. The discussions focused on real-time alerts for the Kedarnath Yatra, weather monitoring, and emergency response coordination. The review included an examination of the Uttarakhand State Disaster Management Authority’s ability to track road conditions, rising pilgrim numbers, and potential GLOF threats to ensure safety in mountainous terrain.
