Uttarakhand Police Advance Cyber Operations with Fraud Arrest and Yatra Monitoring

Uttarakhand's Special Task Force (STF) cyber team arrested Bhupinder Singh, a resident of Ambala district in Haryana, for receiving Rs 50 lakh of the Rs 1.47 crore taken from a victim in a digital‑arrest scam. The victim from Nainital had reported that fraudsters posing as Maharashtra Cyber Crime officials had kept her under "digital arrest" via WhatsApp for 12 days and coerced her to transfer money. STF Superintendent of Police Ajay Singh said the arrest was achieved through technical analysis, digital evidence and surveillance.

Ahead of the Kanwad Yatra scheduled to start on July 30, the Uttarakhand Police are deploying about 20 cyber commandos trained by the central government to monitor social‑media activity, curb misinformation and track known criminals who might use the pilgrimage as cover. The force will also use facial‑recognition systems and has requested additional central personnel to enhance security during the event.
