Uttarakhand Premier League serves as talent feeder for IPL

Sunil Joshi, Chairperson of the Uttarakhand Premier League (UPL), stated that the franchise league is becoming a vital feeder system for aspiring talent in the state. The tournament provides a pathway for players to reach high-performance environments, including the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Women’s Premier League (WPL), and national teams.

Joshi noted that the UPL offers opportunities to players who may not have been selected for other state-level competitions like the Ranji Trophy or Under-19 cricket. He cited the success of players such as Mumbai Indians pacer Akash Madhwal and women cricketers Raghvi Bisht, Prema Rawat, Nandini Kashyap, and Neelam Bhardwaj as evidence of the league's role in bridging grassroots cricket and professional levels. The current edition features seven franchises, providing opportunities for approximately 77 players.
