Uttarakhand strengthens disaster monitoring following Nepal floods

Uttarakhand is strengthening its monitoring of glacier lakes, rivers, and vulnerable areas to mitigate natural disaster risks. Disaster Management and Rehabilitation Minister Madan Kaushik stated that the state is implementing scientific surveys and advanced early warning systems, drawing lessons from recent catastrophic flooding in neighboring Nepal.

The initiative follows severe flash floods in Nepal's Rasuwa district, where the death toll reached 389 and 977 people were reported missing. In response to the regional instability, the administration in Uttarakhand’s Kumaon region has been placed on high alert, with officials closely monitoring water levels in the Kali River.

In a separate incident in Dehradun, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and local police rescued five people after their vehicle plunged 35 meters into a gorge near Sahia. Two individuals sustained serious injuries, while three others suffered minor injuries. All victims were transported to a hospital for medical treatment.
