UVB-76 radio station continues mysterious signal broadcasts

UVB-76, a shortwave radio station commonly known as ‘The Buzzer’, has been broadcasting mysterious signals since the 1970s. The station primarily emits a continuous, monotonous buzzing sound at 4625 kHz, which repeats approximately 25 times per minute.

Periodically, the buzzing stops, and a voice in Russian reads out sequences of numbers, code words, and names in what is known as the ‘Monolith’ format. While the Russian government and military have not officially confirmed the station's purpose, its activity has increased since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Speculation regarding the station's function ranges from a spy network to a component of the ‘Perimetr’ (Dead Hand) system, a Cold War-era automated nuclear response mechanism. The station remains a subject of intense interest for amateur radio operators and geopolitical analysts.
