UWW recognizes Todor Angelov as President of Bulgarian Wrestling Federation

The United World Wrestling (UWW) federation has officially recognized the newly elected leadership of the Bulgarian Wrestling Federation, with Todor Angelov serving as president. This decision follows an extraordinary general assembly held in Sofia on October 17, 2026, where Angelov secured 94 votes.

UWW Secretary General Carlos Roy confirmed in an official letter that the election results were validated by both the UWW and the Bulgarian Olympic Committee on October 19, 2026. Consequently, registration changes requested by the new Board of Directors have been implemented.

As part of this transition, the UWW has ceased all communication with the team led by former champion Stanka Zlateva, who lost the election. The federation noted that Zlateva’s team had continued to use official UWW email credentials and access data after the new leadership was established, an action the UWW described as unauthorized. This dispute follows a protest from Zlateva regarding the removal of wrestler Aik Mnatsakanyan and coach Andrey Stoynov from the Athena system and the denial of their accreditation for the World Championships in Astana.
