Uyo motorcyclist reportedly killed by falling tree

A young commercial motorcyclist was reportedly killed by a falling tree on Abak Road in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, during heavy rainfall on Thursday morning. The incident occurred near the Cultural Centre at approximately 7:00 a.m.

Witnesses at the scene reported that the motorcyclist was struck while heading to work and claimed that police removed the body around 9:00 a.m. However, the Akwa Ibom State Police Command provided a different account. Police spokesperson Timfon John stated that patrol officers discovered the fallen tree obstructing the road at approximately 9:30 a.m. and received preliminary information suggesting an unidentified motorcyclist had been injured, though neither the victim nor the motorcycle were found at the scene.

The incident has raised public concerns regarding the management and maintenance of aged or decaying trees along major roadways in the state capital.
