Uzbek President Mirziyoyev launches major urban upgrades in Tashkent

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Sergeli district’s “Change Neighborhood” project, highlighting newly built multi‑storey housing, a modern cogeneration plant and upgraded public spaces. The development, costing $5.8 million, supplies electricity and heat to more than 6,700 residents, creates ten permanent jobs and includes new pedestrian routes, playgrounds and sports facilities.

In the same meeting, the president announced a city‑wide plan to construct twelve artificial lakes across Tashkent, allocate 22 hectares for water bodies, and build a 5‑km health trail along the Jawn canal. Digital tourist maps will be made available for free at railway stations, airports and metro stations. Additional measures involve building 15–20 modern public toilets per district, expanding waste‑bin placement and reducing crime, with 230 neighbourhoods reporting no offences for six months.

These initiatives aim to improve living standards, boost tourism and modernise the capital’s infrastructure.
