Uzbekistan defender Khusanov apologizes to cameraman after collision in World Cup opener

During Uzbekistan's opening match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup against Colombia at Estadio Azteca on 18 June 2026, defender Abdukodir Khusanov collided with a sideline cameraman while chasing a loose ball. The cameraman received immediate medical attention from FIFA staff and was treated on the field.

After the game, Khusanov sought out the injured crew member, presented him with his jersey from the match and a handwritten note apologizing for the incident. The gesture was shared widely on social media. Colombia won the match 3–1, with goals from Daniel Muñoz, Luis Diaz and substitute Jhon Durán.

The collision drew brief concern but did not affect the result of the group‑K fixture.
