Uzbekistan, nicknamed the “White Wolves,” made a striking World Cup debut at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City, equalising in the 41st minute to finish the match 1‑1 against seasoned side Colombia. The goal came from Daniel Muños, whose precise cross was met by Utkir Yusupov’s cool finish.

The Central Asian side entered the tournament under the guidance of former world‑cup champion Fabio Cannavaro after a strong qualifying campaign that yielded ten wins and only one loss. It was the nation’s first appearance at a senior World Cup finals. Colombia, Copa América runner‑up, had hoped to rebound from a disappointing showing at the Qatar tournament.
