Uzbekistan hosts Silk Road Finance & Technology Forum to drive regional investment
The Silk Road Finance & Technology Forum 2026 was held in Tashkent, bringing together over 6,000 participants from 74 countries to discuss investment and financial innovation in Central Asia. Convened by the Central Bank of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN), the event featured nearly 200 speakers and investors managing US$4 billion in assets.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance Jamshid Kuchkarov outlined Uzbekistan’s economic goals, which include achieving investment-grade credit ratings, completing accession to the World Trade Organization, and increasing private-sector participation. The country reported an 8.5% GDP growth in the first half of 2026 and a sovereign rating upgrade to Ba2 by Moody’s in June.
During the forum, Vyacheslav Pak, First Deputy Director of the National Agency of Perspective Projects, addressed the need for new regulatory frameworks for digital assets. He noted that traditional tools are insufficient for regulating stablecoins and tokenized securities due to the speed of digital transactions. Pak emphasized that future regulations must address anti-money laundering (AML), monetary policy integration, and the impact on monetary statistics.
