Uzbekistan integrates traditional crafts and local brands into economic growth

Uzbekistan is implementing strategic policies to integrate its traditional artisan culture into its modern economic development. Through the creation of the ‘Hunarmand’ association, the government has established a registry of craftspeople—including weavers, woodcarvers, and embroiderers—linked to specific tourist routes. This system allows registered artisans to access resources from the Ministry of Culture and the Chamber of Commerce, while diplomatic missions assist in showcasing their work in international markets.

Parallel to these cultural efforts, there is a growing trend of domestic brand expansion under the ‘Made in Uzbekistan’ label. This shift spans various sectors, including textiles, electronics, and food. Industrial production in the country increased by 6.8% in 2025, while exports rose by 24% to approximately €29 billion, according to the National Statistics Committee.

In the creative sector, platforms like Teplo Store are facilitating the rise of local designers, moving the perception of local goods from purely traditional or mass-market items toward high-quality, distinctive brands. Designers are increasingly blending traditional materials, such as adras silk, with contemporary styles to meet modern consumer demand.
