Uzbekistan promotes cultural heritage via desert tourism and the Islamic Civilization Centre

The Centre of Islamic Civilization in Tashkent, described as the world’s largest museum dedicated to Muslim heritage, hosts thousands of daily visitors and international delegations. Created in 2017 under President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, it showcases historic manuscripts, astronomy and medical contributions, and collaborates with UNESCO and Oxford University on research and exhibition programmes. Recent events at the Centre have brought together over 400 scholars and facilitated the return of nine artefacts seized abroad.

At the same time, Uzbekistan’s desert regions are being highlighted as tranquil tourist destinations. Travelers are encouraged to explore the historic brick cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand before venturing into the quiet Kyzyl‑Koum desert, staying in traditional yurts near Lake Aydarkoul and experiencing local crafts, music and night‑sky stargazing.
