Uzbekistan records over 2,200 road accidents in first half of 2026

From January to June 2026, Uzbekistan logged 2,286 road and transport accidents, averaging about 13 incidents per day. The crashes injured a total of 3,306 people, with the capital Tashkent accounting for 420 cases, or roughly 18% of the national total. Other regions with high counts included Samarkand (311), Tashkent province (271) and Fergana (218). In contrast, the six‑month period in 2025 saw 9,226 accidents nationwide, resulting in 2,188 deaths and 8,901 injuries. The first half of 2026 therefore represents roughly one‑quarter of the previous year’s total accidents, underscoring ongoing road safety challenges.
