Uzbekistan State Historical Museum gets digital overhaul after UNESCO World Heritage listing
Turkey‑based experience design firm Outdoor Factory has completed a comprehensive digital and interactive redesign of the Uzbekistan State Historical Museum, the country’s oldest museum founded in 1876. The renovation introduced multimedia displays, interactive zones and modern exhibition techniques for the museum’s 250,000 artifacts, aiming to let visitors experience history more directly.
The project coincided with UNESCO’s World Heritage Committee adding Tashkent’s modernist architecture to the World Heritage List on 27 July 2026, placing the museum among the highlighted sites of the newly recognized heritage area. Outdoor Factory’s chairman Toygar Yedigöz said the goal was to balance technology with content, creating “a narrative language where the visitor’s sense of history is stronger.” Museum director Cennet Ismailova thanked the firm for its contribution.
The transformation positions the museum as a model of contemporary museology in Central Asia, showcasing how digital tools can enhance cultural heritage preservation and public engagement.
