On 17 July and 19 July unmanned aerial vehicles struck the Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) terminal, damaging civilian tankers that transport Kazakhstan's oil. Kazakhstan’s Foreign Minister Yermek Koşerbayev held a telephone conversation with U.S. official Marco Rubio, discussing the attacks and urging immediate protective measures. The two officials called for swift condemnation of the incidents and for coordinated steps to safeguard Kazakhstan’s oil‑export infrastructure, which carries about 80 % of the country’s petroleum output.

Romania’s interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan also spoke by phone with Kazakh Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov, stressing that more than 60 % of Romania’s oil imports arrive via the CPC and that the pipeline’s uninterrupted operation is vital for European energy security. Both sides expressed gratitude for Kazakhstan’s efforts to maintain the flow despite recent disruptions and reaffirmed cooperation on protecting critical energy infrastructure.

The discussions occur as Kazakhstan prepares President Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev’s upcoming visit to the United States for the G20 summit, highlighting the strategic importance of the CPC to regional economies and diplomatic relations.
