Uzeyir Hajibeyov honored through cultural festivals in Ankara and Baku

Cultural events honoring the legacy of Azerbaijani composer Uzeyir Hajibeyov have taken place in both Ankara and Baku. In Ankara, the opening of the ‘Culture Road’ Festival was dedicated to Hajibeyov. A concert titled ‘Two States – One Stage: Brotherly Melodies’ was performed at the CSO Ada Ankara Main Hall, featuring prominent opera artists from both Azerbaijan and Turkey. The event was a collaborative project supported by the Ministries of Culture of both nations and the Azerbaijani Cultural Center under the auspices of the Azerbaijani Embassy.

In Baku, the Azerbaijan State Academic Musical Theatre hosted a production of the mugham opera ‘Leyli and Majnun’, based on Hajibeyov’s work. Directed by Samir Qulamov, the performance was part of the XVIII International Music Festival organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture. This production marks the 30th staging of the work in its new form, returning to the historic stage where it was first performed over a century ago.
