Romania implements industrial support for Dacia and defense sectors

The Romanian government is preparing a support package for the automotive industry, specifically targeting the Dacia plant in Mioveni. The Ministry of Economy has identified a decline in competitiveness compared to nations like Morocco, Turkey, Spain, and Slovenia, driven by high energy costs and wage pressures. Proposed measures include reducing energy costs and extending the Rabla program through 2030.

In the defense sector, the Ministry of National Defence has signed three contracts worth approximately 9.88 million lei with Uzina Mecanică Sadu. These agreements aim to supply ammunition for the Romanian Army’s new assault weapons under the SAFE program and involve production partnerships with the American firm USBL.

Additionally, the Ministry of Economy has announced plans to urgently reorganize Romarm SA. The goal is to transform the entity and its 15 subsidiaries into an integrated industrial holding organized by clusters, such as armament and naval sectors, to ensure market survival and prevent political interference.
