Uzor Arukwe calls for diverse roles in Nollywood

Nollywood actor Uzor Arukwe has expressed frustration regarding the repetitive nature of the roles offered to him by film producers. During an interview on The Creativitea Podcast, Arukwe stated that producers frequently cast him in “Odogwu” characters because they believe these roles guarantee a return on investment.

Arukwe urged industry professionals to take risks on new character types for him, noting that his initial popularity was built on a producer taking a chance on a specific role. He emphasized that he should not be limited to a single archetype.

His manager, Mautin Tairu, acknowledged the frequency of these “igbotic” roles. While Tairu noted personal fatigue with the repetition, he explained that business decisions and investment security often take precedence over artistic preference.
