Uzsoki Hospital director Andrea Ficzere dismissed from position

Andrea Ficzere, a neurologist and rheumatologist, has been removed from her position as director of Uzsoki Hospital in Budapest after nearly 14 years in the role. The National Hospital Directorate (OKFŐ) announced that her contract was withdrawn without a specified reason, stating there was no obligation to provide justification for the dismissal.

Health Minister Zsolt Hegedűs addressed the dismissal via social media, stating that the government will not tolerate situations where a hospital leader's family members work within professional and paid service structures for which that leader is ultimately responsible. The Minister emphasized a commitment to ending nepotism and practices that create the appearance of nepotism.

Ficzere, who also served as the president and later vice-president of the Hungarian Hospital Association, expressed that the sudden dismissal felt like a message that her work was being disregarded. András Csaba Nagy, the current head of the Zugló Health Service, will serve as acting director starting September 1 until a new director is appointed.
