Va’ Sentiero documentary chronicles trek across Italy

The documentary film ‘Va’ Sentiero’ captures a three-year journey along the Sentiero Italia, a trekking route spanning 7,887 kilometers from the Alps to the Strait of Messina. Directed by Andrea Buonopane and co-directed by Emanuele Mercurio, the film follows the efforts of the Va’ Sentiero association to rediscover Italy’s mountainous backbone and highlands.

The expedition, which included seven young people and one retiree, faced various challenges including pandemic-related suspensions. Beyond a personal adventure, the project served as a social and cultural initiative, highlighting the realities of depopulation, isolation, and climate change in small villages and remote communities. During the trek, over 3,000 participants from 16 nations joined the group at various stages.

Screenings for the film are scheduled to begin on October 22 in Milan, Turin, and Rome.
