Yucatán transport system faces crisis amid unpaid debts

The Va y Ven public transportation system in Yucatán is facing a potential collapse due to administrative and financial issues within the Agencia de Transporte de Yucatán (ATY). Concessionaires report that the ATY owes operators 45 days of unpaid work, which has exhausted fuel credits and hindered the ability to pay for maintenance and spare parts.

In response to service failures by the company Circuito Metropolitano S. A. de C. V., the ATY has activated a contingency plan using Movilidad Urbana Mérida S. A. P. I de C. V. to ensure the continuity of the Metropolitan Circuit routes. Despite these interventions, business representatives warn of a high risk of service suspension.

Additional concerns have been raised regarding the management of funds. Critics point out that over 190 new units remain out of circulation due to a lack of permits, and there are questions regarding the allocation of payroll tax revenues, which were expected to reach 700 million pesos but reportedly yielded only 75 million pesos.
