Vaasa region receives significant funding in Finnish supplementary budget

The Finnish government has submitted its third and final supplementary budget of the year to Parliament, proposing significant investments for the Vaasa region. Key allocations include 2.7 million euros to develop research activities and infrastructure at the University of Vaasa, and 1.7 million euros for road projects in the region.

In terms of innovation, the budget proposes a 930,000 euro grant for the ‘Robocoast’ project under the European Digital Innovation Hub (EDIH). This initiative involves multiple universities in western Finland and aims to assist small and medium-sized enterprises and public organizations in adopting new technologies and enhancing digitalization. Additionally, 350,000 euros is proposed for the Ostrobothnia Regional Council.

Educational developments also feature in the proposal, with Vaasa Lyseo High School receiving authorization to launch a specialized mathematics, science, and technology track (LUMA-line) starting in August 2027. This program is intended to support the region's growing energy sector education pathway.
