Vaca Muerta energy projects receive major RIGI investment approvals
Argentina is seeing a surge in energy sector investments driven by the Large Investment Incentive Regime (RIGI). A major milestone was reached with the approval of Tecpetrol’s Los Toldos II Este project in Vaca Muerta. This initiative involves a US$6.4 billion investment aimed at producing 70,000 barrels of oil per day and creating approximately 3,100 direct and 4,800 indirect jobs.
Other significant developments under the RIGI framework include Pampa Energía’s Rincón de Aranda project, valued at US$4.5 billion, and Vista’s Bandurria Norte project, which seeks a US$5.8 billion investment. Additionally, the Vaca Muerta Oil Sur (VMOS) pipeline project is progressing toward its goal of transporting crude to the Atlantic coast.
These investments are contributing to a shift in Argentina’s trade balance, with energy exports generating a significant surplus. The expansion of Vaca Muerta is also driving regional logistics and infrastructure, including the San Matías Pipeline and increased port activity in Río Negro.
