Vadhvan Port project progress reviewed by India’s Shipping Secretary
Vijay Kumar, Secretary of the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, conducted a site review of the Vadhvan Port project in the Palghar district of Maharashtra. The visit aimed to assess ground-level progress and ensure the timely execution of the ambitious greenfield deep-draft major port.
During the inspection, officials provided updates on several critical components, including near-shore reclamation, breakwater construction, land acquisition, utility infrastructure, and external connectivity. Kumar emphasized the necessity of seamless coordination among all stakeholders and agencies to maintain construction momentum and scale up operations as enabling works advance.
The Vadhvan Port is being developed by Vadhvan Port Project Limited (VPPL), a special purpose vehicle established by the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and the Maharashtra Maritime Board (MMB). Once completed, the all-weather port is expected to significantly increase India’s cargo-handling capacity and strengthen its position in global maritime trade.
