West Indies level T20I series against India with historic 250-run chase
West Indies leveled the five-match T20I series 1-1 against India with a historic six-wicket victory in the second match at Ranchi. Chasing a massive target of 250, West Indies reached 252 for 4 in 18.3 overs. Captain Shai Hope led the charge with an unbeaten 102 off 45 balls, while Sherfane Rutherford contributed a rapid 84 off 37 balls. This performance marked the highest successful T20I run chase against India and the second-highest in men’s T20I history.
India posted 249 for 5, fueled by Sanju Samson’s 82 off 41 balls and Ishan Kishan’s 43 off 22 balls. Despite the high score, the Indian bowling attack struggled to contain the West Indian batters on a flat pitch, particularly under heavy dew conditions. The match saw a total of 501 runs, the second-highest aggregate in men’s T20I history.
Following the defeat, Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir raised concerns regarding the balance between bat and ball, questioning whether overly batting-friendly pitches are putting bowlers' careers at risk. The third T20I is scheduled to take place in Indore.
