Vaibhav Sooryavanshi wins Asian Games gold for India

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a 15-year-old cricketer from Bihar, has become the youngest Indian to win a gold medal at the Asian Games. He achieved this milestone as part of the Indian men’s cricket team, which defeated Pakistan by 19 runs in the final held at Korogi Sports Park in Nagoya, Japan.

During the final, India posted 211/6 in 20 overs, with Sooryavanshi contributing 15 runs off nine deliveries. Pakistan was subsequently restricted to 192/6. Sooryavanshi’s achievement broke the previous record for the youngest Indian gold medalist, held by shooter Saurabh Choudhary.

In addition to his athletic success, Sooryavanshi has gained international recognition by being named to TIME’s 100 Rising Stars list. He is the only Indian athlete included on the list and holds the distinction of being the youngest athlete featured on the tally.
