Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s India cricket debut sparks celebration in Bihar village

Left‑handed teenager Vaibhav Suryavanshi was selected for the Indian men's T20 squad, earning a place on upcoming tours of Ireland and England as well as the Asian Games in Japan. His inclusion marks his first appearance in the senior national team and makes him one of the youngest players to be named for an international series.

The news triggered widespread excitement in his native Tajpur village in Samastipur district, Bihar. Residents gathered to share sweets, light fireworks and congratulate the family. Vaibhav’s father, Sanjeev Suryavanshi, told reporters that the whole community turned up to celebrate, distributing laddus and bursting crackers. He praised his son’s dedication, noting the long commute to a cricket academy in Patna and the early‑morning meals prepared by his mother for training sessions. The selection follows strong performances in domestic tournaments, including a prolific stint with Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

If Vaibhav makes his debut on the Ireland or England tour, he could become the youngest Indian to play international cricket before turning 16, surpassing previous records held by legendary players.
