Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale reach Chennai Open WTA final

Vaishnavi Adkar and Rutuja Bhosale have become the first all-Indian pair to reach the final of a WTA Tour-level event. The duo secured their place in the final at the Chennai Open by defeating Weronika Falkowska of Poland and Alana Smith of the USA in a semifinal match with a score of 6-2, 2-6, 10-8.

The victory comes despite physical challenges for both players, as Bhosale has been managing an injury and Adkar has dealt with a thigh injury and illness during the tournament. The pair will face Naïma Karamoko and Simona Waltert in the final on Sunday.

While the Unberio sisters, Shikha and Neha, previously reached WTA finals in 2005, they represented different nations. Adkar and Bhosale mark the first time a pair representing India has reached this stage of a WTA tour event.
