Vakfıkebir seeks registration for traditional kuzine stoves
The Vakfıkebir Municipality has reached the final stages of applying for a geographical indication registration for the ‘Vakfıkebir kuzine stove’ through the Turkish Patent and Trademark Office. Produced in the Vakfıkebir district of Trabzon for approximately 120 years using traditional handcrafting techniques, these multifunctional stoves are designed to heat homes while simultaneously allowing for tea brewing and cooking on the top surface and in a specialized oven compartment.
Mayor Fuat Koçal stated that obtaining this registration aims to introduce the Vakfıkebir stove to the world. If successful, this will become the fourth geographical indication for the district, following Vakfıkebir bread, külek cheese, and kara kilid. The stoves are noted for their high-quality sheet metal, heat retention, and durability, and are increasingly used decoratively in restaurants and balconies. Local craftsmen, such as Ali Haydar Kudu, who has operated his workshop since 1954, continue to maintain this multi-generational trade.
