Val Chmerkovskiy suspended from Dancing With the Stars

Professional dancer Val Chmerkovskiy has been suspended for one week from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ following a controversial social media post. The disciplinary action, announced by producer BBC Studios, comes after Chmerkovskiy posted a TikTok referencing the 2022 Oscars incident where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock.

The post was made in response to judge Carrie Ann Inaba’s critique of a performance by Chmerkovskiy’s wife, fellow professional dancer Jenna Johnson. Chmerkovskiy stated that his instinct was to defend his wife, but he admitted to making a ‘poor decision’ by using a meme that could imply physical aggression.

In a public apology, Chmerkovskiy expressed deep regret, stating he had reached out to Inaba personally to apologize. He acknowledged his responsibility as a role model and vowed to be more careful with his words in the future.

During his absence, Chmerkovskiy’s celebrity partner, Jenna Dewan, will perform during the upcoming Dedication Night episode with professional dancer Alan Bersten.
