Val d'Elsa River Hiking Trails Open in Tuscany, Italy

The Sentierelsa is a family‑friendly footpath of about 6 km (average 1 h 50 min) that follows the Elsa River in the Tuscan countryside. The easy route passes historic sites such as an 18th‑century mill, medieval bridge, artificial canals that once fed the local paper industry, and offers bird‑watching opportunities. Swimmers can use the shaded “Cascata del Diborrato” cascade and other river pools during warm days.

The Anello della Francigena Colligiana is a longer loop of roughly 22 km (about 7 h 10 min) of moderate difficulty that follows the historic Via Francigena. Starting in the medieval village of Colle di Val d'Elsa, hikers cross the Elsa River, revisit the cascade, and enjoy panoramic views of the valley before returning via the surrounding countryside. Both routes are promoted to attract tourists, pilgrims and outdoor enthusiasts to the region’s natural and cultural heritage.
