Val Venis clarifies retirement status after ring return

Former WWE Intercontinental Champion Val Venis has addressed his recent return to the wrestling ring at age 55. During a Twitter Spaces session, Venis clarified that his match at the Independent Superstars of Pro Wrestling (ISPW) Legends of Wrestling Night in Wildwood, New Jersey, was intended as a one-off appearance rather than a full-scale return to professional wrestling.

Venis, who competed against Rico Gold in July 2026, stated that while he has not closed the door on wrestling entirely, any future participation would be decided on his own terms. He noted, “If I feel like coming back out of retirement again, I’ll do it again, but if I don’t feel like it, I won’t.”

In addition to discussing his retirement status, Venis expressed criticism regarding recent WWE developments, specifically targeting Sami Zayn’s Undisputed WWE Championship victory. Venis argued that current stars do not meet the standards set by legends such as Hulk Hogan, Stone Cold Steve Austin, and The Rock, and suggested that WWE leadership has lowered the bar for championship eligibility.
