Valais police increase school zone safety controls
The Valais Cantonal Police in Switzerland are increasing their presence around schools to coincide with the start of the school year. Through targeted controls and prevention activities, authorities aim to protect children on their way to school.
This year, the focus is on vehicle speed and timely braking. The police are participating for the second time in the national campaign ‘Luege | Brämse | Halte’ (Look | Brake | Stop), organized by the Touring Club Switzerland (TCS) and the Road Safety Fund (FVS). Following a 2025 focus on observation, the 2026 phase reminds drivers to adjust their speed near schools, residential areas, and public transport stops.
Authorities emphasize that children are particularly vulnerable road users due to their unpredictable behavior and developing ability to judge speed and distance. The campaign is being conducted in two parts: awareness-raising activities to sensitize road users and targeted inspections near schools and student transport stops.
