Valarie Moseley appointed Missouri Department of Corrections director

Missouri Governor Mike Kehoe has appointed Valarie Moseley to lead the Missouri Department of Corrections, effective October 1, 2026. Moseley, who has served as the department’s deputy director since December 2023, will succeed Trevor Foley. Foley is transitioning from his role at the Department of Corrections to become Missouri’s state budget director.

Moseley’s appointment is subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate. Her previous experience includes serving as the director of the Division of Offender Rehabilitative Services, where she helped launch the Reentry 2030 initiative.

Upon taking the position, Moseley stated her priorities will include supporting the departmental workforce, strengthening engagement with external stakeholders, and reducing risk and recidivism to enhance community safety.
