Valdemoro apartment explosion causes fire and animal deaths
A gas explosion occurred in a residential building in Valdemoro, Madrid, specifically at number 24 Reyes Católicos Avenue in the El Hospital neighborhood. The blast took place in a first-floor apartment within a four-story building of recent construction.
While the apartment was empty at the time of the incident, resulting in no human injuries, the explosion triggered a significant fire that spread to the floors immediately above and below the affected unit. Emergency services, including the Madrid Community Firefighters and SUMMA 112, were deployed to control the flames and ensure the structural stability of the building. The building was evacuated during the intervention.
The most notable casualties were four dogs inside the affected residence. Three dogs died due to smoke inhalation, while a fourth dog suffered a cardiac arrest but was successfully resuscitated and placed under veterinary care. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the explosion.
