Valdeorras Hospital healthcare workers call for protest

The CIG union has called for a public demonstration on October 17 in O Barco to defend public healthcare. The protest, organized by the Plataforma Sanitaria de Valdeorras, aims to address what the union describes as the “dismantling” of the Valdeorras Public Hospital.

Union representatives claim the current situation forces patients to travel to the Complexo Hospitalario Universitario de Ourense for care that should be available locally. They highlighted critical shortages in specialties such as Pulmonology, Traumatology, Oncology, Pediatrics, and Cardiology, as well as delays in primary care.

The demonstrators are demanding the coverage of medical positions, a permanent pulmonologist, an advanced life support ambulance, and a service portfolio tailored to the local population and territory.
