Valdeorras students explore Atlantic migration history

More than 300 students from eight educational centers in Valdeorras are participating in the II School Coexistence organized by the Fundación Florencio Delgado Gurriarán on September 24 and 25. Held in Fontei, the event uses the theme ‘Atlantic Journeys’ to explore the historical links between Galicia and the Americas.

The program focuses on the lives of two figures connected to the region: Florencio Delgado Gurriarán, who lived in exile in Mexico following the Civil War, and Corona González Estévez, a feminist journalist and intellectual who died in Brazil. Through these stories, students learn about migration patterns from the 19th to the 21st centuries and reflect on identity and cultural connections.

The initiative is coordinated by the Asociación Cultural Nadel and supported by Iberdrola, alongside several local municipal councils.
