Valderice opposition accuses Mayor Stabile of political opportunism

Political tensions are escalating in Valderice as the Democratic Party (PD) and the “La Scelta” council group have launched a sharp critique against Mayor Francesco Stabile. The opposition has accused the Mayor of “political opportunism” and “mercantilism” following his recent move to join Forza Italia.

Central to the dispute is the funding for the Porto di Bonagia. While the project was included in the 2021-2027 FSC programming with 34 million euros allocated for safety, it was defunded in 2026 due to a lack of project maturity. Opposition leaders claim Stabile is shifting blame to regional authorities for the loss of funds, despite previous assurances. Additionally, the opposition is demanding transparency regarding the General Regulatory Plan (PRG) and the Mayor's strategic vision for the territory.
