Vale proposes strategic plan to boost Brazil's mining sector

Vale, in collaboration with consultancy Accenture, has released a strategic report titled ‘Destravando o Potencial da Mineração no Brasil’ (Unlocking Brazil's Mining Potential) to influence future public policy. The document, which will be presented to all 2026 presidential candidates, outlines 15 strategic initiatives across four priority areas, including environmental licensing, infrastructure, and regulatory frameworks.

The report suggests that if these measures are adopted, Brazil's annual mineral production could rise from approximately R$300 billion to R$535 billion (roughly US$99 billion) by 2035. This expansion could increase total sector employment—including direct, indirect, and induced jobs—from 3 million to 5.3 million. Additionally, the study estimates that tax revenue from the mining sector could reach R$1.3 trillion between 2026 and 2035, compared to R$750 billion collected in the previous decade.

Vale CEO Gustavo Pimenta emphasized that the proposal aims to help Brazil capitalize on global opportunities. The plan advocates for a state-led agenda to identify transformational projects and improve competitiveness, which the company notes has declined over the last decade due to infrastructure and licensing challenges.
