Vale resumes partial operations at Fábrica Mine in Ouro Preto

Vale has received authorization from the Minas Gerais Court of Justice (TJMG) to partially resume operations at the Fábrica Mine in Ouro Preto. The suspension of activities had been in place since early February following a leak of water and sediment in January.

The incident involved approximately 263,000 cubic meters of turbid water escaping from a mine pit, affecting streams that feed the Paraopeba River and causing sedimentation and vegetation damage. The leak was attributed to a failure in the reservoir's drainage system. While the company stated the material consisted only of water and sediment without mining tailings, the state government issued a fine of R$ 1.7 million regarding the incident and another leak in Congonhas.

The reactivation of the iron ore production unit is part of a commitment agreement between Vale, the government of Minas Gerais, and the State Public Ministry. Vale indicated that the resumption of operations will not alter current production projections and will adhere to safety, licensing, and environmental control conditions.
