Vale sanctions former board vice-chairman for confidential information leak

Mining company Vale has sanctioned Marcelo Gasparino da Silva, the former vice-chairman of its board of directors, for the “deliberate leak of confidential information.” The company stated that an investigation by an independent external law firm confirmed the intentional disclosure of non-public internal information regarding a board meeting held on June 19, 2026.

Gasparino reportedly confessed on two occasions to sending a draft of his statement and vote to an external market analyst. While the sanction of removal from his position was subject to shareholder approval, Gasparino resigned from his post in July.

Vale announced it will pursue accountability in all applicable spheres, including potential criminal measures, to protect its interests. Additionally, the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) has initiated an administrative process to investigate Gasparino’s conduct, and Vale is cooperating with the regulatory body.
