Valencia announces forest fire recovery plan and new environmental law

The Generalitat Valenciana has announced a 2.7 million euro recovery plan for areas affected by the La Vall d’Uixó forest fire. The project, to be executed by Tragsa over eight months, will be carried out in two phases. The first phase focuses on removing fallen trees and sediment near populations and roads to ensure safe access, while the second phase will concentrate on erosion control, hydrological regulation, and vegetation recovery.

In conjunction with the recovery efforts, President Juanfran Pérez Llorca announced the upcoming introduction of a new Forest Law. This legislation aims to protect the Valencian countryside by providing financial incentives to private landowners for environmental services. The system is designed to reward land management that conserves ecosystems and reduces wildfire risks, addressing the challenge of managing large tracts of privately owned forest land that were heavily impacted during recent summer blazes.
